Chatham
Rd, SR-57Meadville, Virginia The Meadville Community Center fulfills the mission of Professor Caleb Robinson, who founded the McKinley Institute in 1893 to teach African American girls to read and write. Upon his deathbed, he donated the land to the New Zion Baptist Church, as an educational center and gathering place for African Americans to preserve a sense of community. “saying you’ll do something with that piece of land.” Three African American Baptist organizations and other local leaders organized to form The Meadville Center in 1975 and dedicated the newly built center in 1978.
