| Civil
War Heritage Both Hunter’s Raid and the Wilson Kautz Raid plowed straight through Southern Virginia, leaving 10 Civil War sites and two Civil War Trails in their wake. The earthworks at the Staunton River Battlefield State Park, considered some of the best preserved in the nation, are on the National Register of Historic Places. The Sutherlin Mansion in Danville was the last home of the Confederacy, making Danville, the last Capitol of the Confederacy. The other Civil War sites in the region are equally as interesting. |
