| Civil War Tour of Danville | |
|
_______________ |
The City of Danville played a significant role in the final days of the Confederate States of America. Locations are now commemorated in a Civil War Tour of 14 Danville locations. It was here that President Jefferson Davis fled after the fall of Richmond to Union forces, with Danville serving as the seat of government from April 3-10, 1865, when word reached the community of General Lee’s surrender at Appomattox. Davis took up residence at the home of his friend in the Sutherlin mansion, which still stands grandly in the center of town. Directions: General Location Specific Location |
