Even as tobacco declined and new industries moved into the area, the High Gothic Victorian mansions in Danville welcomed new owners, ready to restore and renovate these grand, delightful structures into one of the South’s finest collections of Victorian and Edwardian mansions you see today. Styles and details range from American Picturesque, Italianate and “The Wedding Cake House,” to Corinthian columns, American Four Square Queen Anne and Georgian Revival. Blocks and blocks of streets paralleling and perpendicular to Main Street are covered with a myriad of houses, on which no expense was spared in building, or in restoration.
