It opened in 2002 as the Roanoke Visitor Center to house an archaeological exhibit of Native American artifacts excavated from the park by the Longwood University Archaeological Field School. Investigation of the Late-Woodland American Indians at the Park is a joint effort by the Longwood University Archeology Field School, the Virginia Division of Parks and the Archaeological Society of Virginia.
