As you walk Washington Street in the center of Boydton, you’ll be walking on the original route of the Boydton-Petersburg Plank Road, a timbered turnpike that allowed planters to transport their farm products to markets in Petersburg. You’ll see a replica of the actual road, the antebellum courthouse of Mecklenburg County and other historic buildings along the route.
