Dating from 1823, Charlotte Courthouse is the only courthouse in Virginia designed by Thomas Jefferson and still standing. The interior has been renovated to feature portraits of Charlotte County’s early leaders. The courthouse is surrounded by several other authentic buildings including the Charlotte County Museum, dating from 1810, and the original Charlotte County Library, also built in 1810 as a law office and residence of Judge Hunter Marshall. The Old Brick Tavern was constructed in 1812 and the District Court Building dates from 1830. The nearby Greek Revival Village Presbyterian Church dates from 1836. The cemetery at the rear of the church was given to the village of Charlotte Court House at some time during the 1840s.
