Trail open all year
Cost: Free to drive trail.

Established in 1999, the Civil Rights in Education Heritage Trail transits twelve counties, the City of Petersburg and covers 41 sites of historical significance in southern Virginia. The trail illustrates the innovations and strides in education for African Americans, Native Americans, women, men, the disabled and other groups that were made in south central Virginia from settlement to the present day. Few areas of the country can claim that innovations in education were developed for all segments and groups in society within a single region. Drive the roads and explore the story.
