Once scheduled for demolition, the old Clarkton Bridge is now part of the Virginia Rails to Trails program, open to non-motorized traffic. The old humpback structure which spans the scenic Staunton River, links Halifax and Charlotte Counties. It is also a part of the new Tobacco Heritage Trail of southern Virginia, being developed by the Roanoke River Rails to Trails, which connects the bridge with Red Hill, the last home and burial place of Patrick Henry. It is one portion of the Roanoke River Rails to Trails program to turn 150 miles of abandoned railroad right of way in Mecklenburg, Brunswick and Halifax counties into trails.

Directions:
From South Boston (15 miles). Go north on Route 501 to SR-626 (Shiloh Church Road)Turn right onto 626 (which becomes Clarkton Road) and go to SR-620 (Clarkton Bridge Road) and turn left and go to bridge.
