Named for the former Executive Director of the Virginia Game Department, the Dick Cross Wildlife Management Area is nationally known as a bird dog trial facility. Some 300 acres of bottom land timber along Allen Creek and the Roanoke River also shelter doves, deer and wild turkeys. Since it is a designated waterfowl refuge, no hunting of birds is allowed.

Directions:
Located in Mecklenburg County, along the north side of the Roanoke River just below John H. Kerr Dam. From U.S. Route 58 near Boydton, between South Hill and Clarksville take State Route 4 south. Go about five miles to the management area entrance.
