StDanville, Virginia One of several historic cemeteries in Danville, Freedman's Cemetery, located immediately behind Green Hill and the National Cemetery, occupies some 11 acres. Originally part of the Green Hill Cemetery, Freedman's was set aside in 1872, and intended, as the name implies, for recently freed slaves and other African American citizens.
