Danville, Virginia Once the economic wellspring of Danville, this 40 square block area in the heart of the city was home to tobacco warehouses and factories, shops and homes of the working class residents of the city. As the industrial activity in Danville grew, it ultimately became one of the South’s primary bright leaf tobacco markets. Today, the Tobacco Warehouse and Residential Historic District is comprised of 585 buildings that were part of Danville’s tobacco enterprise, all constructed between 1870 and 1910. Approximately 450 workers homes were constructed between 1880 and 1930. Directions: General Location Specific Location |
